Facebook Optimization Tips for Business Pages

Facebook Optimization Tips

Most if not all have a Facebook personal profile account, but my guess is only a few have a Facebook business page.  To create a business page go to http://www.facebook.com/pages and click “create page”, select the right type of page. For instance, for my business of security page, I chose Brand/Product and selected Product/Service from the drop-down list provided. There is a 4 step process to complete your page setup.

Facebook Optimization Tips for Your Business Page

  1. Cover image. Size 851×315 pixels. Can contain words. Since it is an image, it is clickable, in the text create a call-to-action, the user will click it, and be presented with a page showing the image, add a clickable link in the description for the call to action (CTA).
  2. Facebook’s CTA. In the bottom center right of the cover photo. There are 7 actions to choose from. Simply select an action and enter the appropriate link.
  3. Profile image. 180×180 or 540×540 pixels. I recommend a logo, or if you don’t have a logo, a clear picture of the founder, or owner of the company.
  4. About Information. Completely fill in all information.
  5. Tabs. You can add customizable tabs to your page. For example, on my business of security page tabs you’ll see “Free eBook”, which when clicked will lead to a page for a person to fill in a form to download an ebook.
  6. Get familiar with Page Insights. Insights are incredibly useful data to help you understand your audience. What did they like most, best time and day to post, demographic information, and so much more. Insights are only available to page admins.
  7. Quality, curated content optimized for Facebook updated consistently. Your page won’t be much without sharing your and other people’s content.
  8. Notes. The notes feature, available in your personal profile, has had a major facelift – think writing a blog post right on Facebook.  Although the notes get posted to your personal profile, you can share your notes on your page, or other groups and pages. The notes can include images, links and cover image. The notes feature is located under the More tab. If you don’t see it in the drop-down, click Manage Selections, and click/tick the box next to Notes. Notes do show up in Google search results. Be sure to add calls to action for conversions.
  9. Video. Create a video and upload it directly to Facebook. Online Video now accounts for 50% of all mobile traffic.  View this infographic for more stats.

Building your audience does take time.

In addition to your posts your audience (organic reach), I  highly recommend advertising (paid reach). Advertising to specific, customized audiences will exponentially increase your reach and engagement. Advertising is the best way to convert a Like into a customer.

Be Committed

I know that social media marketing can be a handful sometimes.  You’ve got to curate your content and/or other people’s content,  organize it, schedule it, monitor the responses and analyze the data on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. But in this day and age your business needs to be committed to doing these steps to be seen, heard, sharing your knowledge, inspire, and since you are a business – convert your fans/followers/connections into sales, clients, and customers.
