How to adjust Facebook Privacy and Security Settings
In this day and age where ransomware and hacking are so prevalent, it is more important than ever to be continuously checking your social media accounts. With nearly to 2 BILLION users, Facebook is part of our daily lives. We share what’s going on in our life, images of friends and relatives and videos of our vacation trips. With so much sharing of personal data on the social network, it is important that you ensure that your Facebook account is as secure as it can be to protect your data and maintain as much privacy as possible (knowing, of course, that Facebook happily devours our data for advertising and retargeted marketing).
So Let’s Start Securing Your Facebook Account
Where do find Facebook Security Settings
The first question you might have is where the heck to find these settings anyway? If you’re on a desktop, click on the little upside down arrow or what I call a down arrow, on the far top right side of Facebook. Click on Settings.
Security and Login Settings
Starting with the Security & Login section, I highly suggest to set up two-factor authentication. How this works is when you go to sign into Facebook for the first time, Facebook will send you a code via text message. You enter that code into the field provided by Facebook to authenticate that it is you logging in. The click the remember this browser checkbox, so you don’t have to enter the code everything single time.
The next option I highly recommend is to set up to receive alerts about unrecognized logins. If someone is trying to get access to your Facebook account from an unrecognized device or browser, Facebook will notify you via email to alert you. At that point, you have the option to yes that is you or not trying to log in.
Privacy Settings
Moving down to the Privacy tab take a close look at who can post to your personal profile timeline, whether or not you want to approve the post or not and, whether you want to a notification when someone tags in a post, and who can see your posts.
Block Settings
In the Blocking tab, you have the ability to block annoying, spammy friends and those pesky game app invitations.
Bonus setting – Ad Preferences
Bonus check not mentioned the video. While on the settings page, click on Ads and Ad preferences. A new browser window will open. Under interests, select which interests to keep or remove. Adjusting your interests will improve which ads Facebook thinks you want to see in the news feed.
