A few days ago MSNBC website ran a story on how hackers using stolen username and password credentials try to break into at least 600,000 Facebook accounts every day.
This is a huge number on its own, but when you put it in context with Facebook’s 800 million users who log in 1 billion times a day, 600,000 doesn’t seem so large. However, the threat is very real and can happen to anyone at anytime.
The good news is that with a few simple steps you can mitigate the risk of hackers getting into your account. Here’s what you do.
Login to your Facebook account, on the top right side next to the home button, click the down arrow and select Account Settings
On the next page, click Security from the menu on the left. Here you will have a few options to lower the risk of hackers getting into your account. You need to have the first two options enabled/set. The third option I have enabled where it will text me a code if Facebook doesn’t recognize the device or IP address.
Choose those options that will work for you and keep those hackers at a distance by securing your own Facebook account.
